The reverse of the coin features a space shuttle launching from Launch Complex 39 at the Kennedy Space Center, with a smoke trail and stars in the background. This design was created by Ron Sanders and sculpted by Eric David Custer.
The obverse, common to all coins in the series, features a profile representation of the Statue of Liberty, designed by Justin Kunz and sculpted by Phebe Hemphill, with the inscriptions “IN GOD WE TRUST” and “$1,” as well as a gear mark symbolizing innovation.
