The design: a circular interpretation of the monument
The artist Pandora YoungVancouver resident, was responsible for capturing the central elements of the Tomb located in front of the National War Memorial in Ottawa on the reverse of this coin. The design reproduces the main components of the original sarcophagus in a circular form:
- World War I helmet y medieval sword wrapped in laurel and maple leaves, symbols of death, victory and patriotism.
- Three Commemorative Crosses Representing the monarchs George V, George VI, and Elizabeth II, each with its respective royal numeral. These crosses, awarded to the families of fallen soldiers, are minted on a coin for the first time.
- A golden poppy at the base of the design, evoking the soldiers who might fall in the future.
- Roses and poppies additional decorations decorate the surroundings, as a symbol of the eternal respect of the Canadian people.
